Signs of Demonic oppression

Is the enemy at work in your life?

There are usually signs and symptoms that indicate you are experiencing demonic oppression. These can both be subtle and very obvious.

The Apostle Paul warns us in Ephesians 6:12,13

12. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

13. Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (NKJV)

As Christians we need to be aware of the reality of spiritual warfare and know the authority Christ has given us to overcome.

The foundation of deliverance is Jesus Christ and our foundation in Jesus Christ is the gospel.

Here is a list of the common signs that indicate demonic activity and oppression, this list is by no means exhaustive but are the tell tale symptoms I come across frequently when ministering to those oppressed by demons.

Intrusive thoughts (often violent, sexual, perverted, blasphemous)
Voices heard in the head that intimidate, bargain, blaspheme, accuse, refer to him/her in the third person)
Sleep paralysis
Out of body experiences
Extreme sleepiness around spiritual things, for example when praying or reading the Bible
Manifestations in the home (shadows, lights, orbs, bad smells (sulphur), sounds, demonic apparitions)
Feelings of being choked (usually when praying, reading the Bible or at night), a tightness in the chest and around the head.
Panic and anxiety attacks
Mental torment and emotional problems
Persistent nightmares/night terrors
Objects being moved in the home with no rational explanation
Frequent miscarriages in the family
Aversion to hearing the word of God or to deliverance ministry
Reactions to the blood of Jesus (physically/mentally)
Pains in the body which can be stopped with/alleviated by a command of spiritual authority
Blackouts/missing time
Addictions (drugs, alcohol, sex, food etc.)
Extreme bouts of anger/rage
Sensations of movement within or around the body
Interference with bodily functions (temporary), buzzing in the ears, inability to speak or hear, sudden severe headaches, sudden chills or overwhelming heat in the body, numbness in arms or legs, temporary paralysis
Sudden changes in personality or attitude
Compulsive thoughts of suicide, murder
Sadistic tendencies
Demonstrations of extraordinary abilities (ESP, telekinesis, premonitions)
Hatred and bitterness towards others with no justifiable reason
Feelings of revulsion towards the Bible, desire to tear it up or destroy it
Feelings of being touched, sexually molested, grabbed or held down at night
A feeing of a presence or being watched in your home
An awareness of something sitting on your bed or laying alongside you at night time

If you are experiencing any of the above you could need deliverance. The first thing you must do is look to Jesus Christ as your deliverer! It is essential that you:

Confess and repent from your sins
Ask the Lord for forgiveness and to cleanse you from your sin
Let go of any unforgiveness or resentment that you're holding on to
Remove anything from your home that does not honour God or is associated with Satan's kingdom

Demons need to be cast out and the good news is that we have the God given privilege to speak in the name and authority of Jesus Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit!
